The Importance of Responsible Waste Disposal

In today’s throw-away culture it’s easy to disregard the impact our everyday waste has on our environment. Unfortunately, however, almost everything we buy as consumers, from our weekly food shop to toys for our children are packaged in single use receptacles. Gone are the days of the milkman, where glass bottles would be washed after use and re-filled time and time again. Today, it is far too easy to dispose of our waste without due care and attention and simply toss it into landfill. Disposable single use and non-recyclable packaging only contribute to our planets huge and growing waste and pollution problem. Easily disposable packaging also encourages a lazy and irresponsible way of life. Nevertheless, there are many things we can all do to combat excessive waste and reduce the impact of waste on our environment.

How can I Help?
Developing good consumer and recycling habits is one of the best ways to reduce landfill waste. Check products are packaged in recyclable materials before you buy them. Sort household waste to ensure nothing recyclable ends up in landfill and say no to single use packaging whenever possible. There is of course, always more we can do to reduce the amount of waste we produce but starting with small, realistic goals is the best way to ensure we maintain a green lifestyle.

Say no to Fly Tipping
It’s unsightly, disrespectful and harmful, but while you may never think of fly tipping yourself, by choosing an unlicensed waste collector you could unknowingly be paying someone else to do it for you. Rogue waste carriers are not always easy to spot, and may disguise themselves as genuine. Licensed waste carriers such as ourselves ensure all your waste is disposed of legally and responsibly. All the waste we collect is either sorted for recycling or reused, which helps keep our service costs low. We all need to ensure rogue traders are reported and put out of business and for more information on how to spot a rogue waste collector please click HERE.
